Numerology

It was the belief of the ancient Chinese that the universe was based upon mathematical principles, in other words, numbers. They believed that numbers held tremendous significance.

The Link Between Lo Sho Numerology and Chinese Numerology

Chinese numerology is actually based on Lo Sho numerology and a grid of numbers. This grid is actually quite astounding due to the fact that every single horizontal as well as vertical and diagonal row will add up to the number 15. 15 coincides with the number of days that it takes for a new moon to become a full moon. The Lo Sho grid also forms the foundation of Taoism.

It is estimated that Chinese numerology has been in existence for at least 4,000 years. The Lo Sho grid is believed to be represented by the legend of the turtle that has nine perfect squares on its back that was seen by Emperor Yu while on the banks of the Lo River.

Learning Chinese Numerology

The best way to learn Chinese numerology is to begin with the easiest method for understanding the representations of the numbers. The square that the system is based on is easy to draw. All you need to do is make the # sign and give it a border. Once the square has been drawn you will then be ready to start.

One thing to keep in mind is that the number 0 is never used. This is a number that is never used in numerology. If you were born in a year or on a date that contains the number 0 then you would just discard that number. Only the numbers 1-9 are used.

When you begin to number the squares you will begin at the bottom left. Anyone that was born in the 20th century or in the 1900s will automatically have a 1 as well as a 9 in their chart. The bottom left square will have the number 1. Moving up, there will be a 2 and there will be a 3 in the top left. The bottom center square will have a number 4. Moving upward in the same direction, there will be a 5 and a 6. The bottom right square will have a 7 while the middle square will have a 8 and the top right square will have a 9.

The Meaning of the Squares

In looking at the meaning of the numbers, it is important to understand what the squares mean.

The bottom horizontal row, which is the numbers 1, 4 and 7, refers to practicality. This includes athletic ability, manual labor and physical coordination as well as common sense.

The middle horizontal row, which is the numbers 2, 5 and 8, refers to emotional feelings. This includes spirituality, feelings, emotions and intuition.

The top horizontal row, which is the numbers 3, 6 and 9, refers to mentality and includes imagination, analytical ability and thinking abilities.

The horizontal rows represent the person. The practical row is the equivalent of the legs and feet while the emotional row represents the torso and the mental row represents the head.

The bottom vertical row, which includes the numbers 1, 2 and 3 is represented by intellectual capacity, the ability to carry out ideas and creative ability.
The middle vertical row, which includes the numbers 4, 5 and 6 is represented by persistence, determination and stubbornness.

The right vertical row, which includes the numbers 7, 8 and 9 is represented by the ability to put thoughts or ideas into action.

The vertical rows indicate the steps that must be taken by a person in order to generate an idea as well as see it through.
