You’ve probably heard dozens of stories about them. From Unidentified Flying Objects, to crop circles and strange abductions – all of these strange and mysterious phenomena usually lead to the even bigger and more mysterious phenomenon of extra-terrestrials. There are thousands upon thousands of video footage, images, and witness accounts that claim their existence, but whether or not they’re really out there remains to be unproven.
It all comes down to that immortal question: are we alone in the universe? And if we’re not, what – or who – is really out there? We have come to call them extraterrestrials, or more commonly, aliens. Their existence as of yet remains purely hypothetical because there isn't any actual, physical evidence that has been acquired to prove that they exist.
However, there have been numerous speculations and theories as to what they may be like, and it is from such speculations and theories that the stuff of science fiction is born. From movies like “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” to “E.T.”, “Independence Day” and the bluntly titled “Aliens”, it is highly evident that extra-terrestrials have undoubtedly captured man’s imagination.
The possibility of the existence of extra-terrestrials is not purely fiction. Scientists have theorized on the possibility of carbon, silicon, and ammonia providing a basis for life in other parts of the universe. Theories also abound regarding the evolution and morphology of an alien life form based on the evolution and morphology of life forms here on earth.
From the people of ancient Egypt and Babylon to the Greek Thales and philosopher Immanuel Kant, the existence of extra-terrestrials has been of great interest among humans throughout history. During these modern times, technology has allowed for the creation of devices that can actually lead to evidence proving or disproving the existence of alien life forms.
Various research organizations are being funded for the sole purpose of finding proof of life outside of Earth through direct and indirect methods. Some organizations are even attempting to communicate with what’s out there, whatever or whoever they are, in the hope that they will respond. Although to this day, no evidence has yet to be uncovered. The continuous advancement of technology can only lead to better, more equipped devices that can be used to find extra-terrestrials in the future.
The existence of extra-terrestrials remains a highly controversial and debatable subject. Skeptics and believers are both large in number and equally passionate about their position regarding the matter. For now the two sides can argue, but in the near future, we may put a stop to the dispute by actually providing evidence of their existence. Then we shall finally discover whether or not we’re alone in the universe.
